5 Reasons Your Face Acne Keeps Breaking Out

Having acne is horrible. But what is worse is having an episode after an episode without knowing what’s actually triggering it.

While the common cause of Acne is hormonal, there are many other things that you might be doing unconsciously that are causing you to break out again and again.

People with oily or combination skins have to be extra conscious because they are more prone to having acne flare-ups. This is because the sebaceous glands in their skin are producing sebum in excess.

Let’s have a look at some of the common mistakes we make that trigger our acne. Our HydraFacial Surrey facial helps with clogged pores to target acne and textured skin. Our Surrey Chemical Peel also helps with acne and hyperpigmentation from acne scars.

You Are Cleansing Too Much- or Not Enough!

Cleansing your face too excessively and harshly can create the very problem you are trying to avoid. Cleaning dramatically can cause your skin to dry up and build up an excess of dead cells. As a result, the sebaceous glands in the skin start to compensate for this by increasing the production of sebum. Excess sebum is the main culprit behind acne breakouts. If you have a habit of cleansing more than twice, make sure you are using a gentle cleanser that doesn’t strip natural moisture from your face.

Similarly, not cleansing enough can be problematic too. If you wear foundation and make-up in routine, a gentle cleanser will not dissolve all the makeup, dirt, and oil. Make sure you double-cleanse with an oil-based cleanser to get the makeup off your skin. Another common mistake is to not cleanse your hairline and neck properly. The build-up of make-up and impurities there will not take long to settle on your face and result in pimples.

Your Makeup Brushes Are Too Dirty

Dirty makeup brushes can be full of leftover makeup, topped with dirt and irritants that can cause your skin to flare up. Our experts at White Rock Spa recommend that you wash your make-up brushes thoroughly every week if you are a regular make-up user.

You Are Not Changing Your Pillowcase Often

Pillowcases can be the biggest carriers of dirt, oil, makeup and hair products that fall off from the previous day and when you sleep on that pillow with a face down, you are pushing those impurities in your pores.

Make sure you wash or change your pillowcase every week. Also, go to bed with a clean face and properly washed hair to keep your pillowcase from catching any gunk.

Your Diet Needs A Change

Certain things in your diet can be the root cause of your acne to show up again and again. For most people, dairy is the biggest acne-cause food that they are consuming and going dairy-free makes their acne go away.

Similarly, too much sugar, carbs and processed food can dramatically increase the blog sugar level, which in turn elevate the insulin and testosterone levels in the body. Both these hormones are closely associated with causing acne.

If this is the case, try to alter your diet. Find out what is not working for you by eliminating it from your diet for 5-7 weeks and observing the results.

Your Skin Care Products are Comedogenic

When it comes to skincare products for acne-prone skin, one has to be highly vigilant when having their pick. Always make sure that the products you are using are non-comedogenic and will not clog your pores. It is best to try out the products that have a special mention of “For acne-prone skin”. A good ingredient to look for in your skincare products is salicylic acid. Acne-prone skins also highly benefit from nightly use of Retinol. Our treatments at our Surrey Microneedling Spa also offers other facials to completely transform the skin for the better.
